Just met with European Commission Executive VP @teresaribera.ec.europa.eu about our urgent climate work, consumer affordability, and energy security.

By deploying home-grown clean energy, we're racing toward carbon neutrality and helping counter turbulence from international energy sources.

The world can count on Europe's climate leadership.

Our Nationally Determined Contribution will range between 66.25% and 72.5%.

And we are working full speed on -90% by 2040.

We are on our way to climate neutrality.

Science doesn't exist in a vacuum. Values always play a role, especially in thorny issues like climate change.

Here, @christelvaneck.bsky.social, @lydiamessling.bsky.social & I argue it's time to move beyond the pipe dream of neutrality + empower scientists to engage openly with societal values. 🧪

Germany's Bundestag on March 18 approved a major constitutional amendment to loosen the country's strict "debt brake" policy, paving the way for increased spending on defense, infrastructure, and climate neutrality.

For years, people argued that there's no point in taking climate action unless China is onboard. I'm at a COP30 event where Chinese government officials and renewable industry reps are outlining the fast-paced renewable energy transition and long-term carbon neutrality plan. The story has flipped.

This perfectly encapsulates the "performative neutrality" of which @peterhotezmdphd.bsky.social and I accuse the New York Times--with respect to both climate and vaccines--in #ScienceUnderSiege. In fact, it goes beyond that, engaging in outright antiscience pandering:
Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.

Our new journal paper has hit the front pages and got wide coverage on the airwaves this morning.

The paper critically assesses “temperature neutrality” as a basis for Ireland’s long-term climate target. We find it amounts to backsliding on climate ambition and locks in food system unfairness.

But budgets are tight, citizens are fatigued, and EU support is shrinking.

In our interview, Nick Meynen explains why local action can’t succeed without real backing from Brussels.

As a crucial COP30 takes place in Belém, Europe shows climate action and competitiveness go hand in hand.

Parliament's vote on our proposal to reduce carbon emissions by 90% by 2040 is a very welcome development.

And a major step on our path to climate neutrality by 2050.
