500,000 German students are going to use open source Nextcloud.
Yes, Germany just handed Nextcloud a €67.5 million contract to power school cloud infrastructure across six states.

More excellent news for data sovereignty and control away from the oligarchs. #Linux

Skies in Kyiv today have been filled with cloud... and drones.

A continuous stream - explosions have been heard most recently just south of the region, near Vasylkiv and the power station there. They may all be shoot-downs - no confirmation of new hits.

Had to look this up.... Sheesh let's turn over all our computer power to "the cloud"

The devil has the power to cloud men’s minds, as you know.

Not sure kid me got the “my husband will be home soon!” crack.

Well I like it. But I did grow up on O.G. Max Power.

it is actually more economically efficient, in terms of computation/dollars, for all the resources to be pooled in a cloud service. but that doesn't matter, because 1. that consolidates power and incentivizes tremendous abuse and 2. optimizing computation/dollars isn't optimizing human wellbeing

This week, with a stable high pressure area hogging the skies over the UK, which encourages mist, fog and cloud, coupled with shorter days, we generated less than a third of our power needs by gas turbine.

Renewables alone made up more than 42%.

Not just that, it would also make anyone who wants to do anything that needs computing power (playing games, game dev, rendering, video editing, etc etc) to be entirely dependent on cloud computing. And therefore another paywall for an inferior user experience.

It’s like when everyone thought cloud was a money loser, and Amazon was either doomed to lose money forever or barely break even.

There is SO much margin to use meaningful clean power to power it, and it’s scandalous to run so much of it on gas.

How Cloud Storage and Cloud Computing Work Together in Modern Applications
Cloud technology has changed how people store information, access software, and use digital services. From saving photos online to running business applications, many everyday activities depend on cloud infrastructure. Two important parts of this technology are cloud storage and cloud computing. Although these terms are often used together, they serve different purposes. Cloud storage provides a place to keep digital information, while cloud computing provides the processing power and resources needed to work with that information.

Sam Altman says it’s better for RAM to be in a data center than on your desk
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in an interview that AI data centers are a better use of RAM than personal PCs, as AI continues fueling the RAM shortage.

A few days ago Sam Altman declared the future is data centers and the cloud, stop hoarding your personal computer power.

This is a perfect argument against data centers, putting information in the cloud, and relying on benign dictators for access.

In 2015, data centers meant cloud storage. In 2026, AI-scale facilities devour water and power in the nation’s driest state. Aaron Ford’s plan: pause their tax breaks until audits prove they deliver, and keep them off Nevada’s fresh water and out of your electric bill. @aarondfordnv.bsky.social

That’s because in the 90s, the "cloud" was just something that blocked the sun. Now the cloud is a physical building eating the local power grid and hallucinating your legal briefs. The stakes shifted from "sending a gif" to "replacing the intern."

Make no mistake, AI is entirely about large corporate bodies consolidating power, same as ride-share and delivery apps were. Same way cloud gaming has been.

There is no way in which corporate-run AI data centers are intended as a great equalizer, nor that they feasibly can become one.

We should put all computing hardware into the cloud so the cloud can meet the demand for computing power induced by putting all the computing hardware into the cloud.

Sam Altman is a grifter, a worm, and a robber baron.

Cloud computing, by contrast, needs data centres, chips and power before it can bill a customer. Growth moving from search to cloud can look similar at the top line while carrying very different economics underneath.
