A fun detail I didn't have room to work in is that horned lizards seem to mostly only spray blood from their eyes at canids as a defense tactic. They scurry away from rattlesnakes, turn themselves on their sides to look big around coachwhips, and puff up sort of uncertainly when handled by humans
Texas horned lizards are the official reptile of Texas and they can spray blood out of their eyes. incredible work being done here
