Federal agents arrested a truck driver headed for Canada on the Ambassador Bridge after they found $3 million worth of cocaine in his trailer toolbox early Friday. The driver, Gurshinder Singh, was stopped at 6:55 a.m. Friday as part of an enforcement operation by the Detroit Contraband Enforcement Team, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court. The team, along with Customs and Border Protection officers, interviewed Singh, who was asked what he was hauling and where he had come from. According to the complaint, Singh said he had come from Wisconsin and had spent the night in Indiana. Officers searched the passenger-side toolbox compartment of the trailer and found Home Depot moving boxes, hidden behind rubber mats, the complaint said. Officers opened a box and found vacuum-sealed duct taped brick bundles. Eight Home Depot boxes were removed from the trailer, and wrapped bundles weighed more than 173 kilograms. All three bundles returned positive results for cocaine. Singh was advised of his Miranda rights, and he asked for an attorney. He appeared before Magistrate Judge Kimberly G. Altman on charges of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.
