One thing that just keeps giving is @vincentab.bsky.social's marginaleffects package (see marginaleffects.com). It's just a complete game changer, moving from "trying to discern what model coefficients tell you after careful recoding" to "you know what, just compare these slopes, thx"

you repeat this process over and over again until the model can predict what is going on. but there is going to be a problem.

what we are really doing here is multiplying matrices with extremely small coefficients by other matrices with very small coefficients. the computer has finite precision.

3. I then found out that the author mixed suicide RATES (per 100,000) with suicide RATE RATIOS either standardized to 1 or to 100. See my comments to the figure. I confirmed this by looking at several individual studies. Of course this doesn't make sense at all.

Problem with this study is that they’re comparing positive and negative signed coefficients that are both not significantly different than zero. An honest study would’ve treated insignificant coefficients as zero.

I told authors this and they didn’t care as they wanted the headline.

When the standard errors of all of your coefficients are missing.
Are there data-driven methods to tell when you have too many fixed effects?

As far as I know, these are all the equations between binomial coefficients that don't follow from a few well-understood infinite patterns.

My student Hannah Zadeh just completed an excellent dissertation on the inclusion of race coefficients and predictive stats more generally in medicine.
a main takeaway: AI tools lock in on these factors in part because **researchers have been doing the same thing**
