Just gave this one a read and it was a delight! It provided some nice CogSci stories and provided a rich history of the field!

2. How many real ideas does any cogsci/psych researcher actually have? Over a career, I'd say typically 2-3. Sometimes 1, very rarely 4. But 100+papers is now the norm. That's nuts.

Kicking off my keynote hat-trick this month in Slovakia! Talking about whether we can still meaningfully separate the sciences, or whether #astrobiology, #AI, and #cogsci are dragging us back to natural #philosophy. 😁

Paper to follow, once I figure out which discipline to submit it to. #academia

I've started reading a book on dyscalculia (by Butterworth, cogsci approach), only 2 chapters in and honestly, my mind is blown at how much stuff I've taken for granted 🤯

(For those who don't know me, I fit the 'good at maths Asian' stereotype)

6 hours of sleep and you feel fine. Is that enough? In one study, 2 weeks of 6 h in bed dropped attention to about one sleepless night, while sleepiness levelled off. Feeling used to it isn't proof you're fine.

Casually dropping a hot single from a band featuring Rees, Schneider, Webb, Davies, Shostak, Cleland and many others, directed by Steven Dick and Mark Lupisella from NASA. I'm basically an astronaut now. 😁 Coming in 2028 by Cambridge University Press!

I harp on Pinker because of my own CogSci background and his prominence therein, but I haven't seen any compelling evidence of him being a transphobe. Though it's not outside the realm of possibility, considering the company he keeps and his identification as a second-wave feminist.

Meet Elisabeth Lex, Prof at @tugraz.bsky.social 🇦🇹 and ELLIS Scholar in ELLIS Unit Graz. She researches human-centric AI, focusing on cognition-informed recommender systems that integrate insights from #CogSci to align algorithmic decision-making with human needs, values, & behavior.

Seems like a turf cudgel. My first really big paper had cogsci, CS, linguistics, polisci, music theory people and some people were mad it wasn't interdisciplinary *enough* 🙃

Does waking at 5 a.m. make you more productive? No study has tested the habit itself. The book says sleep 7.5 h, so asleep by 9:30; early starters average ~6 h. It's not the hour, it's your sleep.

I'm actually working on a paper right now in which we address this issue to some extent (that cogsci needs to have an actual theory of what it means for something to be innate & can't just handwave about it)- it's not the whole point of the paper, but it's in there and happy to share once it's out
