Roughing out the plan for the Intro to DH course. Plan is to have students build a portfolio in CB-Essay. I've set up a template that they'll fork on day one with space for each of the assignments. Each week as we do new things that overwrite the placeholders.

The DHSI workshop itself, on CollectionBuilder, is amazing.

At the end of this week I’m going to have a stable replacement for a legacy project with >6500 index entries. This index was someone’s dedicated project for many years. The impending loss of it has filled me with dread since 2019.

@margaretgalvan.bsky.social Was prepping something and realized, re: our convo about digital collections yesterday, have you heard of CollectionBuilder (collectionbuilder.github.io)? It wouldn't be a one-click install, but it's a lot more lightweight and spreadsheet-driven.

We've had good experiences w CollectionBuilder but this question is tricky, bc while static sites can be easily kept online/archived (sustainable in one sense), the tech exp req'd to even update sites w CLI/GitHub is easily lost w/o programming support (unsustainable in another). A trolley problem!

It’s years since I’ve been in a lecture hall this big! A very different world from the 15-person class I teach at Mount Allison.

This week I’m learning how to build digital collections with CollectionBuilder at #DHSI2026

A combination of static site builders (mostly Eleventy + CollectionBuilder) and some Omeka sites depending on user needs. We've been converting lots of old Omeka sites to static sites though

I'm building an APC discount browser.

I'm very much inspired by CollectionBuilder. Turns a spreadsheet into a digital exhibit, and you can do it all without hosting anything yourself (you need Google and GH).

Lately, I’ve been a bit obsessed with the question if it would be possible to build a #staticsitegenerator for #culturalheritage collections like #wax or #collectionbuilder with #pelican. I played around a bit, and I think it would be. I don’t know if it’s worth […]

The most intriguing tool I encountered was collectionbuilder.github.io out of Iowa. I haven't explore it yet, but the demo suggest this fills a vital gap between projects that require CS students to complete, & drag-&-drop UX that don't teach data skills.
