the framework of "indigenous people" is mostly used for non-dominant groups, you can't call e.g. russians or swedes indigenous, that just makes it so much harder to talk about russian collonialism or the marginalization of sámi people.

Not even, that's the infuriating bit, it's just collonialism. Getting basing rights in exchange for keeping Europe safe was the deal. They are not keeping Europe safe. So based on what logic would they keep the bases, if there is no transaction? Pure military might everyone should bow to?

But . . . we DID try to wipe out the Native Americans. Settler-Collonialism is, by its very nature, genocidal. It requires the removal of an entire culture, even if the people aren't killed, their culture is. That's still genocide. It's in the definition!!
At the heart of this thing is that people are equating "genocide" with their view of Israel as settler-colonialist.

But they do that by side-steppping collonialism, beyond resource exploitation, and avoiding topic of racism in human exploitation pretty much entirely. And while I don't think a setting is obliged to address these, there is certainly a point in westernifying the setting were it feels deliberate.

There is no socialism without anti-racism. There is no socialism without anti-collonialism. Homophobia and sexism too. The working class cannot stand if it is divided against itself with bigotry.
I think a lot of it comes from people getting the elevator pitch of socialism (class war) and thinking that's the entire thing without ever joining an org or reading theory.
