Since people asked me what's in green military smoke grenades, the colourants in the US M18 smoke grenade are 1,4-Bis(4-methylanilino)anthracene-9,10-dione and spirit soluble quinoline yellow.

A couple of years ago here in Melbourne at the national gallery of Victoria, there was a mesmerising exhibition about indigo and had pieces from cultures around the world.

Next thing is dissolving aluminium sulphate (our alum) in the dye, making sure it's still warm (45-70°C.)

Alum is a mordant that binds to water soluble colourants. It's used in dyeing textiles & paper as well as making lake pigments…

Primary colours are colourants or coloured lights that can be mixed in varying amounts to produce a gamut of colours. This is the essential method used to create the perception of a broad range of colours in, e.g., electronic displays, colour printing, and paintings.

Some warning. When you see those “healthy recipes” on Instagram that say “Make your own Sneakers bar, mix peanut butter with chocolate chips, add maple syrup and cottage cheese…etc”

That’s a lot of calories. It may not have preservatives and colourants but still a lot of calories.

📣 New CBE JU-funded project: IRIS will scale up #biobased #colourants for textiles from forestry and agriculture sidestreams and captured CO₂.

With €7m in CBE JU funding, it aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40–70% and improve textile recyclability to at least 80%.

Arsenic was common during the Victorian era.. used in small doses for medicines, for wallpaper (Scheele’s Green), and for food colourants.

The 1851 Arsenic Act was the first attempt at regulation, restricting sales to adults & keeping records, but anyone could sell it

You can build up allergies, particularly to colourants. It's a particular problem with the red colourants in hair dye, for instance.

Seriously, you have to test for toxins that make you stupid, in your food and water, especially in Trump land. Could be pesticides or food additives, colourants, preservative chemicals? If you read ingredient list, it might be a clue. Test the air, food and water.
