i am also learning various new swear words for use when the machine drops a stitch, decides Today Is Not The Day We Knit Without Jamming, or when the ball of yarn gets caught on whatever stuff i did not put away properly (i am careful not to learn from that experience)
The FRONT side of the fabric that was on the machine in the previous picture. It's stockinette with a graphic design of overlapping diagonals. Both background and foreground are in a bulky colourchanging yarn ranging from blue through grey and off-white to green. The effect is stunning. Yes it is! And this was just a sample!

#ShowMeYourKnits prompt this week is colourwork. I have knit so much it is difficult to know where to start, so I have picked my earliest (2014) & latest pieces. My first was Peerie Flooers Beanie by @katedaviesdesigns.bsky.social ; my latest Toph Compagne cowl from @woollywormhead.bsky.social 🧶
Peerie Flooers Beanie in progress. Knit in a variety of Shetland 4ply yarns supplied by the teacher of the class where I learned stranded knitting. The hat shows a deep corrugated ribbing in blues, green, yellow, red and grey The pattern consists of rows of tiny flowers in purple and green, pink and green, and red and green, on a grey and pale blue striped ground. balls of the pink and pale blue are lying alongside the hat. A tam or beret lying on a dark background in artificial light. The wheel of the tam is displayed showing a dark grey rim with green tree motifs. Towards the centre are eight blue and grey compass-like points, and in the very centre achevron ring in descending sizes. The Pattern is Winter Forest Tam by Ruskin's Notes on Ravelry. The tam is knit in a mix of Shetland 2ply jumperweight. Toph Compagne cowl by Tom Paterson and Woolly Wormhead. My first Short-row colourwork piece. It is knit in KDD Schiehallion in Faded Overalls, a dark navy for the background, with each of the leaf shapes in a non-repeating pattern of KDD Buachaille. From left the colours are: Orange, mid blue, green, yellow, grey, orange, red, pink, yellow, blue, orange, red, green, and grey. The cowl is lying on a stone floor. Deep in the Forest Mittens, by Tuulia Salmela, my first pair of mittens, when I really didn't know what I was doing. The mittens show a non-repeating patterns of trees in cream on a colourchanging background. I used Noro Kureyon Sock for the background and some deep stash Jaeger Alpaca for the white trees. The mittens are completely covered in the forest patter, including the thumbs, and the cuff is plain, separated from the main pattern with a Latvian Braid. The background colours from cuff to fingertip, move through deep violet, greens, and turquoise on one mitten, and tuquoise, greens, pinky red and purple on the other.
