(Also, additive combinatorics is ugly don't @ me.)

woah, agent doing combinatorics in the chat multiple calls in a row like it's a Jupyter NB

attempting to do combinatorics without looking anything up because I passed logic and CS theory, goddamnit! I should be perfectly capable of this

but it is equally weird to be hostile towards criticisms that have led to interesting directions from smoothed analysis to analytic combinatorics! esp. since there is plenty of interesting work to be done here too!

Cycle Evaluation Theorem

for the very few people that ever wondered WHY Plethystic Substitution (in Combinatorics) works.

The ideas that lie behind the sub exponential algorithms, both in combinatorics and number theory are interesting, whether or not they can be effectively implemented. This area of implementation is what I think Recht is pointing to.

Completely different thing from the movie is, I don't think the problem on the chalkboard was a "take all semester to answer" level of difficulty. I could be wrong since I haven't taken combinatorics, but it seemed fairly straightforward

(Also also listing answers isnt a proof. Proofs have grammar)

My “writing code for fun after my day of writing code for money” project that I exclusively work on while stoned is making me relearn a lot of stuff about combinatorics and I don’t like it.

We keep hosting events with neat pairs of diplomats—like amb. of Albania to Qatar, amb. of Serbia to Pakistan, etc—so I wondered how many potential ambassadors there might be. bc I'm bad at combinatorics, I brute forced it with #rstats, assuming 195 countries that all like each other

Nearly 38,000!

Haha yes, the brackets were only to point out the obvious. But they’d been at it for a few months, with various problems in graph combinatorics etc.

i'm being facetious here - i find it fun to refer to the study of semiotics (studying meaning, interpretation, etc) as "learning how to read" because the phrase broadly describes what is being done but sounds rather basic and silly. i do the same thing when i call combinatorics "learning to count."

SETS AND COMBINATORICS IN R: A COMPUTATIONAL EXPLORATION OF THE CARTESIAN PRODUCT, THE POWER SET, PERMUTATIONS, AND COMBINATIONS
This article argues that R provides an accessible laboratory for studying finite set constructions by distinguishing mathematical objects from computational representations. It examines Cartesian products, power sets, permutations, and combinations while clarifying the role of…

I’ll talk about this more and cite my sources in the blog post, but I’ve come to the conclusion for a few years now that there’s no such thing as an original idea: it’s all combinatorics the whole way down, going back to early humanity
