#CometObs early morning session:

29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann: 11.6 mag, 2.1', DC5-6
333P/LINEAR: 11.6 mag, 1.8', DC3

First #CometObs of 2026 and probably my last of C/2025 T1 (ATLAS):

9.9 mag, 2.5', DC3, comet is fading slower than expected

Now at 1953 visual magnitude estimates since 1987, this year should see the 2000th. 🎉

Possible Kreutz #comet 6AC4721 as imaged earlier today (Jan. 18) with iTelescope's 0.51m CDK (T30) at Siding Spring Observatory (Q62).
This one might(!) become interesting around April of this year.

Frosty but calm morning #CometObs session. 24P/Schaumasse nicely placed about 9° below Arcturus.

9.3 mag, Dia 6.5', DC3

This apparition comet shows a marked perhelion asymmetry in its lightcurve ( cobs.si/home/ ).

#CometObs morning session. Two ATLAS comets under mediocre conditions

C/2025 K1: 10.1 mag, 1.5', DC4/, tail 0.1°, saw it last in August at ~12 mag & never thought I'd see it again. Tough little comet!

C/2025 T1: 10.4 mag, 3', DC3, brighter than expected, moving fast, my 187th visual comet

Skies cleared unexpectedly this evening and I was able to obtain an estimate of comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS). 9.8 mag, 2.5' diameter and DC4. Comet is getting lower in the evening sky.
Still hoping to bag a few more estimates until the end of the year.

First visual #CometObs in 2025. Bad weather & no brighter comets in sight seems to prevent reaching my 2000th estimate this year... Currently only the "old faithful" 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann is a target for me. Maybe again tomorrow.

A little progress thread on my #CometObs during this night with the S50. Just preview images from the app. Photometry and proper processing will be done tomorrow.

First one is C/2022 QE78 (ATLAS). It is around 15 mag and is the slightly diffuse object near the center of the image.

My grandma used to say "On Christmas Eve, at midnight, animals are speaking and wine runs from the faucet." Tested it. Not true.

Instead some #CometObs in frosty and windy conditions:

3I/ATLAS: 11.4 mag, 2.5', DC4, much fainter now

24P/Schaumasse: 9.7 mag, 5', DC 3/, saw it last in 1993

#Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) has slowed down it's decline. I estimated it several times during the last ten days and made it 8.5 mag this evening. Small (2') and strongly condensed it still shows a short & wide tail.
