It isn't even "sports" which is inherently about teamwork, cooperation and athleticism. It's really based on false 'competiveness' and winning.

Just watched the Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads 1974 Christmas Special. It's my equivalent of midnight mass. I honestly don't think the banality, lo-fi competiveness and unspoken love of male conversation has ever been better captured. Sublime writing.

Trading multiple premium assets for Crosby seems to me like a huge change of direction and would undermine long term competiveness for a chance at short term success. Very short term, IMO.

Anyone who has lived long enough knows this. Women sports are becoming big. Their athleticism and competiveness is being celebrated. The response, if women are too good at sports, they will face allegations that they are not women or not feminine enough. This is simply sexism.

So I realize, I've been basically brain poisoned by competiveness. I can't find happiness because I never feel accomplished ENOUGH and push too hard sometimes. Maybe once I heal, I can work on that and be a better person all around.

What seems to be lost is investing in infrastucture, competiveness via education & training & improving economy & trade boosts productivity and standards of living which improves quality of life ie affordability. Handouts dont boost the economy long term. Everyone wants quick fixes.

argue for stricter corporate tax laws, then fine. But that's not something where a chair of a multinational can voluntarily act idiotic by working against the corporate goals they signed up by needlessly throwing away profits and reducing competiveness.

I’m sure our coward Dutch government will not ban ASML from selling their machines to the US anytime soon but a 20% tarrif on every single $380 million machine you need will not improve your factory’s competiveness.

Dissapointment isnt't a strong enough word for this performance. I don't put it all on players (ok Nouhou - he deserves blame for that red) but the FO has reduced this team of any of it's former competiveness

ofcourse climate is paramount. but its worth considering the full range of motivations of why countries are choosing clean energy tech suddenly in 2020s. Lots of unexpected places and different "co-benefits" (for eg. biden in US used jobs, national security, competiveness, energy independence)
