What is true is that this was a conflict—and make no mistake, this was a conflict; this was a protracted battle in a hybrid war, more than anything—that was largely fought by large numbers of people laboriously working to unfuck the nation's informational environment.

CONFLICT IN THE MIDDLE EAST (75kya)
A 75,000-year-old Neanderthal from Shanidar Cave, Iraqi Kurdistan, shows evidence of a potentially lethal spear wound, offering rare insight into violence among our ancient relatives. The findings are published in Scientific Reports. 🧪🏺
Evidence for funerary behaviour and lethal trauma in a new Neanderthal individual from Shanidar Cave - Scientific Reports
Shanidar Cave has long featured in debates concerning Neanderthal cognitive capacity and behaviour, including evidence for care and intentional burial. By identifying additional individuals, including Shanidar A reported here, new excavations have expanded a burial cluster first identified in 1960. Shanidar A, an older adult, was deposited around 75,000 years ago, decayed, and their skeletal remains were subsequently disturbed by a flash flood. Our findings raise the minimum number of individuals in this unparalleled cluster to five, supporting interpretations of complex, potentially meaningful Neanderthal mortuary behaviour. Shanidar A also demonstrates major non-fatal trauma to the face and rare evidence of perimortem penetrating trauma among Neanderthals. Trauma among Middle and Upper Palaeolithic Neanderthals and modern humans, and subsequent survival, is common. However, the facial injury was severe and unusual. It suggests care from group members, the evolutionary origins of which are also contentious. The nature of the perimortem penetrating traumatic injury adds to a small corpus of such injuries in the hominin fossil record. The morphology of this scapula perforation is consistent with injury from a wooden spear, providing valuable (albeit indirect) evidence for the use of wooden implements in the Middle Palaeolithic, which is often difficult to demonstrate given the rare preservation of organic materials.

Stolas directly confronting Blitz rather than running away from conflict showed so much growth. As a conflict-avoidant person, it made me happy to see. I’m so proud of him 🥹

For more background on the conflict between Nithya Raman and national DSA leadership, check out this 🧵 bsky.app/profile/pete...
The key context to have is that Nithya was really bad on Palestine for a while. She distanced herself from DSA when they called for a ceasefire right after Oct. 7, focused on the hostages while ignoring the genocide, opposed BDS, sought an endorsement from a local pro-Israel group, etc.

"The ongoing conflict is a legally ambiguous, shadowy war coordinated by the United States in east Africa, in which there is little accountability for harm to Somali civilians."

How do people not *get this*?

The idea that class solidarity will somehow overcome racial/social conflict/bigotry is disproven entirely by cracking open a history book!
The “something” in question was the workers themselves deciding by 1966 that they no longer wanted New Dealer welfare capitalism if it meant black Americans would benefit from it while anti-war protesters were free to burn the flag
Something happened in the 70's that crystallized politics (and many other topics) into a new set of assumptions and priors. It gave rise to Reaganism and completely crushed New Deal Socialism; Dems that eventually reemerged were and still are centrists scared of their own shadows.

Trolls, bots, parties to the conflict, fellow travelers, and useful idiots may all try to condense the entire Israel/Arab conflict to side-taking propaganda one-liners. You are definitely one or more of those.
