Two Grey Partridge flushed when I started setting up, and a micro disappeared into the conifer.
We call this 'the stackyard', it was full of old farm machinery when we moved in. The Birches I grew from seed, the conifer was rescued from the bin-men in Galashiels when it was knee-high.

It's that time of year - around our house, Western Conifer Seed Bug are looking for somewhere to tuck up for the winter...
Through the frosted glass, an outline of a small insect can be seen. We know what it is even without seejng it clearly. An attractive dark brown beetle with six legs and two long antennae is shown. Its two-tone brown patterning features alternating light and dark bands, which run along the outer wing edges on the flaring sides of the abdomen. It is a Western Conifer Seed Bug (Leptoglossus occidentalis) sheltering from the rain and probably looking for a place to hibernate for the winter.
