This October I'm hosting #Conlangity, a game about fictional languages!
The goal is to help total newbies craft a conlang that is realistic & usable! It will hopefully be accessible to non-linguist people, but it won't be for the faint of heart. Prepare for a challenge!

In the Masqued Sorcerer, it's Growish and spoken primarily by the people in the Kingdom of Growan.

We're starting off real simple! Don't get used to it 😂
What's the name of your conlang, and who speaks it in your world? Don't get too deep into the history or purpose of it yet; that'll be Day 5!
Bonus: How much do you already have developed? What made you want to make it?

I really haven’t developed the Sheltri language enough yet to know what sounds they wouldn’t use other than sounds a human can’t make.
Congratulations, you survived Phonemes Day! But we're still not done establishing the basic flavor of your conlang.
Today, tell me which sounds (consonants, vowels, phoneme combos) are rare or never used in this language, or would be hard for native speakers to pronounce.

Tellari-Universal is a language spoken by the Tellari species in my First Light series. It is constructed, simplified version of Tellari-Contextual, that cuts out all of the nonverbal components (pheromones and kinesics) and tries to patch up what's left with more vocalizations.

Non phonetics in sign are called parameters! Here's a video explaining the 5 parameters of ASL (sorry int. friends, I don't know enough sign outside of ASL 😅) my WIPs sign language uses these parameters as well.

Good morning friendos!
The language mainly used in my #GodsOfAtalantis series is Na'aqal. It's the native language of the people of Atalantis.
I'm cheating because I've already developed this language A LOT 😅 But doing all that work was what inspired me to make this game for others!

The yerulo have 3 languages, Dowk, Huitalizh, Lethtalon. I'm probably going to talk mostly about Dowk bc it's the only language the human character speaks, so the faeries are forced to use it to communicate with him despite that often being hella weird.

I'd say Nummersil has a good balance between vowels and consonants, and most sounds are compatible with my own language (Flemish) -yes I was lazy- except for some extras like the th and kh.

Tellari-Universal includes many sounds, but notably lacks the kind of noises you'd make with your lips, because as a reptilian species, they have a rigid jaw and lack lip flexibility.
This limitation is made up for by breaking it up with other sounds, some unreplicable by humans.

This is Siefan, and at the time a majority of my stories would take place, there's a figurative handful left who can, if that! 😂
Before that, it was primarily spoken by a prominent scholar-viking type people living mostly in a taiga biome that my immortal son Eru Ayaanskil came from. 🧵

super simple name, they call it Handspeak and it's universal across the Realm for those with hearing loss, appraxia, or other communication barriers.
ASL is my life and it's been so fun writing sign ♥️

Sheltri was originally going to be a more sibilant language when I started conceptualizing it, but I’m moving away from that except for referencing sibilance in the dialect of the treeshapers. I don’t think it’s a lot heavier on vowels than English, but they are more drawn out

There’s Sheltri, (my Sheltri characters speak) but also Kudrum (speech of the antagonist race), Ancient Tellinaeic (high speech of the Sheltri), High Cirdaathan (formal Firimar tongue of the holy city in S. Central Rhadhallon), and Talfúrnian, the common tongue.
I need to choose quick!

Geez, Emily, starting off heavily with the stuff I struggle with.😂
Arca'raed (pronounced 'ARC-ah rEEd' and often translated as 'our speech' but more literally 'speech of the lands') is definitely a more vowel heavy language. Many of the words emphasize their vowels while softening 🧵

Athan is a big language, so it uses a lot of broad vowel sounds - more O's, A's and U's, less I's and E's. It also tries to avoid voiceless fricatives, for similar reasons.

Hi friends! I am going to talk about my language Arca’raed, which is spoken by the Istemorian people in my presently untitled political fantasy.
Bonus: Arca'raed is admittedly quite developed already, but I haven't done much work on it in quite some time. It was initially created

As the name suggests, it's primarily spoken by wolves. More specifically, by wolves on the continent's west coast from the midlatitudes to just before the tropics. ⬇️

#TheDragonblood: This month, we're doing the language spoken by dragons and wyverns.
Last year, I decided to give it the name of Draconian to have something to refer to it by. Now, I'm also considering Draconoidic or something along those lines. Any preferences?
