Why should he be free of consequences for his decisions? Protesting from the water around his island and choosing to no longer associate with him are pretty mild consequences as they go. I don’t feel the least bit sorry for him.

This isn’t about convicting Don Lemon. It’s unlikely that will happen. It’s about intimidating journalists & making them censure themselves out of fear of consequences. It’s about eroding the free press because the administration can’t afford the criticism.

It’s free speech.
It’s not free-from-consequences speech.
So, if your speech incites violence, racial hatred, arson, pogroms… there will and must be consequences.
That’s not an affront to democracy. That is democracy. And the law.
Rather than mob rule and fascism.
