there's about to be effectively no federal consumer finance regulation in the united states and I think a lot of places are taking steps anticipating that.
on the other hand the entire purpose of consumer finance regulation is to stop "stupid decision" turning into "stupid decision plus compound interest", so I feel like someone is asleep at the switch here.

Judge Jackson made the only sensible decision, keeping the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau open while they litigate Trump’s ability to close it. If it was closed & then a court ordered it reopened that would be impractical. The decision makes sense, but there is still a lot of resentment for CFPB
