Cookeina tricholoma photographed in Pastaza, Ecuador. This beautiful ascomycete grows on wood in tropical areas - in the USA it only grows in far southern Florida. It was described as Peziza tricholoma from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1834 and moved into Cookeina in 1891.

Here is a family picture of Hairy Cup Fungus ( Cookeina sp. ) is a genus of cup fungi in the family Sarcoscyphaceae that I found in Sumatra. I like the color and shapes of this fungus, which looks like a carnivorous plant.

2021年に記載された種で，岡山県（基準産地）と神奈川県で報告あり。種小名は子嚢盤の剛毛が長いことに由来（通常1.5 mm以上）。

子嚢盤の剛毛のガラス質物質は10% KOHで溶解（同属他種でも見られる）。

子嚢胞子は水道水に12時間浸すと分生子形成細胞を直接形成して出芽型分生子を作る。非常に小さく（径2–2.5 µm），発芽しないため，精子としての機能が考えられている。Cookeina sulcipes（ウスベニコップタケ）も同様。
