#Copper was likely first metal used for tools. And Native Americans, over 9,000 years ago, were likely first coppersmiths.

The stillhouse at Cambus distillery catches fire after the ignition of escaped gases from an ongoing repair by coppersmiths. No one is injured but woodwork was burnt away and copper pipes destroyed by the heat.

Today is Purépecha new year, my husband's family is from that Indigenous group in Michoacan. They celebrate by lighting a fire in the host village, then walking the fire around to neighboring villages. This year's host is Santa Clara del Cobre, a village of coppersmiths.

A special booklet was issued to each employee. They were also issued with money to spend and a voucher for dinner at the town's aquarium which included roast beef plus veal and ham pies. A report in the following day's Evening News praised the visitors good behaviour. See Alt for more details.
