Gonna try and not do that thing where I get upset over elections in states in which i don’t live

Historically, substantial budget and potential for corruption are usually why things like coroners and clerks are elected; clerks do the work of auditors a lot of time too, the people responsible for officially recording stuff have substantial power and authority

God why are so many of the Coroners in this state just garbage
November 3, 2026 at 9:35 PM
Going back to how coroners were remunerated and god, what a mess.

IF YE FIND A MURDER, AND YE ARE A COUNTY CORONER, YE MAY HAVE THIRTEEN SHILLINGS AND FOURPENCE FROM THE MURDERER'S GOODS AND CHATTELS WHEN THEY BE HANGED

But what if they're penniless

ALAS FOR YE

it's reds. *cough* *wheeze* *death rattle* did you know coroners are often elected without regard to qualifications?
November 4, 2026 at 3:46 AM
like many things in the US, it depends on where you are

the medical examiner system is much better, because MEs have to be qualified doctors, and coroners can be politicians with no medical experience

If you want to see the horror this causes, you should read Radley Balko’s The Cadaver King and the Country Dentist, which is one example of coroners gone bad, but it happens everywhere to differing degrees because unqualified people make medical-legal decisions for all of us.

We'll roll with it. haha

Along the same lines, I don't know that I've ever seen any law to back up coroners arresting sheriffs in Alabama, but it's what I've always been told.

I was on the news shift when the Twin Towers and the Space Shuttle disasters hit. Also spent years covering crown court murder trials, coroners courts etc. So have heard some really grim stuff. Joking online isn't a heartless thing. It's what we do. Advice from a counsellor years ago: 'get pissed.'

TPP is not just a tech company. It manages health records for millions of patients.

We previously revealed how several coroners were concerned about SystmOne. Now we've been talking to the people who worked at the company. What they told us is concerning:

Multiculturalism is easy when difference means food, music and festivals. The harder test comes when grieving families need hospitals, coroners and cemeteries to respect cultural and religious obligations, Komla Tsey writes. #Multiculturalism #Australia #DeathCare

I’m philosophically in support of medical examiners over coroners this is the level of nerd I live with in myself.

It costs like $200 to put a candidate on the ballot. At least give red state citizens a chance to vote for a reasonable person! Or just let us fester in hopelessness while Republicans run uncontested for insane positions like coroner (don't look up why the south elects coroners).
