jezz @JezziiB Imagine cutting off federal student loans for programs leading to careers overwhelmingly held by women. Women make up: • 80% of teaching assistants • 81–84% of social workers • 73–80% of counselors • 79% of elementary/middle-school teachers • 85% of special-ed teachers • 92% of hairstylists/cosmetologists • 93% of childcare workers Yup, just a coincidence. 2:14 AM · Sep 29, 2026…

Not that long ago there was a bluesky tiff where somehow occupational licensing got coded as an evil neolib plot. That's a contrast to for-profit cosmetology programs being semi-predatory backed by using occupational licenses as rent-seeking being seen as besmirching the good name of cosmetologists.

I like that commenters argued that the earnings test might treat cosmetology programs unfairly because (1) the test relies on IRS data and (2) cosmetologists like committing tax fraud

The problem is that the schooling is long and fairly expensive, but few grads actually go on to become cosmetologists. Huge gap between what you know as a new grad and what’s needed for the job. Need a salon willing to let you apprentice afterwards.

what's his problem? Cosmetologists have never done anything to him!

"Also, cosmetologists generally rake in the dough, no? "

They do not.

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. You meet someone, they introduce themselves, and two minutes later you can’t recall their name. It happens all the time Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar.

What’s wild is that nearly everybody *needs* cosmetologists regularly. Absolutely an essential profession. An amazing flex to shit on people whose services you have to use unless you shave your own head.

But we need teacher’s aids. We need social workers. We need cosmetologists. We need musicians and artists.

The problem is that education is locked behind loans, and that these fields are chronically under compensated, not Trump’s claim that the govt is somehow “wasting money” providing these loans.

Matt's avi gives a glimpse of a future without cosmetologists.

Bagging on Cosmetologists? My hair girl makes way more many than my kid with 2 scientific degrees!

What do you want to bet that he doesn't cut his own hair?

Cosmetologists don't need to exist? Sure buddy.
October 5, 2026 at 2:48 PM
I know, right? I'll bet a bunch of the MAGA-look ladies rely on cosmetologists.
October 5, 2026 at 2:31 PM
Not exactly showing the love to cosmetologists either.
October 5, 2026 at 2:13 PM
It's not worth fighting with him about, but it seems like cosmetologists might have a gulf between reported income and actual income (in what is obviously a tips-based business), the kind of thing that might interest him. But that assumes good faith on his part, which is its own mistake.

Cosmetologists at least know about the importance of washing their hands
October 5, 2026 at 11:41 AM
Of course this egg looking mf doesn’t respect cosmetologists
October 5, 2026 at 11:38 AM
We do need licensed/certified cosmetologists. We don't need what assholes like MY are selling.

Coincidence? I think not.
More evidence of the blatant attack on women in American society. This is what the GOP/Project 2025 Pushers/Pedo Protectors DO!

Salon owners and schools make competing claims on booth rental bill
Salon owners urged passage of HB 644 to allow cosmetologists to rent chairs; school leaders praised portability but warned booth rental could shift income reporting and consumer-safety responsibilities and urged clear owner-tenant agreements and inspection/insurance rules.

I’m not sure how he can do this, but apparently he can do whatever he wants since nobody stops him. Hopefully our country won’t need social workers, teachers, or cosmetologists anymore. #2547
Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/kQdKbY1

This rule also disproportionately impacts programs that feed jobs that are more commonly held by women and racial minorities—cosmetologists, barbers, estheticians. I’m sure that’s entirely coincidental.
