We have these weird little guys outside that hang out with the cottontails we get around here.

I finally looked them up: thirteen-lined ground squirrel. 🐿️

Good morning my Bleeps. Find the rabbit.
Woods with tree trunks on the left, fern-like ground cover, and maple leaves above. There is an eastern cottontail almost directly in the center of this image in the dark blank space between the fern-like plants and directly below the thin angled branch. I toss peanuts into the woods so the squirrels can eat with some protection from hawks, but it turns out the cottontails like the peanuts too.

Via Heights Wildlife Center, which writes: Baby bunnies can't stop/won't stop. We're still getting numerous calls a day about baby bunnies in need of assistance. While some animals are primarily born in spring or early summer, cottontails in Ohio will have babies from March through October—so we still have a few more months before we get a break. 😅

Crazy to think we’re still getting babies in late summer! We’re guessing this might be the second (or even third!) litter for some of our local cottontails.

We’re certainly not mad about the cuteness… but September?! What a surprise. 😂

Who Knew Bunnies Were So Stackable?
Via Heights Wildlife Center, which writes: Cottontails do best in groups, and while we try to pair them by age, sometimes we have to mix some that are a few days apart. Being younger hasn't stopped this little guy from being the boss, though: he is apparently putting his older roommates in their place!

That's what I meant to say, Eastern Cottontails. There for awhile I'd see as many as five individual ones during my walk, and then starting a several weeks ago, nothing. So I'm glad the foxes (which I've also seen on my walks) didn't get them all.
