it goes cotyledons -> 1 point true leaves -> 3 point -> 5 which is a lot of change very early. This pattern also seems inconsistent across individuals. Most plants simply go cotyledons -> true leaves without any dramatic shift beyond that. Some members of genuses

@ryotachibana.bsky.social et al. dissect the #brassinosteroid signalling pathway that prevents harmful #chlorophyll precursors accumulating during de-etiolation, thus supporting cotyledon greening after darkness-to-light transitioning🌱

This gives them a little bit of resistance to late frosts, as they can regrow from an axillary bud found just above each cotyledon.

At the end of the season, the vines are also a bit more frost resistant compared to common beans. A hard freeze will still kill them.

sprouts are before true leaves, just cotyledons. microgreens are similar but include the still tiny true leaves, just the first few sets.
they’re *almost* baby greens but not that big. but they have the same flavor punch, just with even less water so more intense.

I decided to save some seeds from an overripe fruit, and popped a single seed into a small pot as a viability test.
Boom! A sprout.

Why are there cotyledons on every stem instead of just 2? they also have this cluster of individual woody stems that makes it look like more plants than it is

… but it’s a long way back.
To BSky’s many excellent botanists in the wildlife community, is it possible to ID the cotyledons, or too soon?
Thx.
Oh, and this is a hornet nest at max phone zoom, but the fuzzy insects are too small to properly appreciate
