A kraken-like octopus that could grow to 60 feet and prowl the oceans as a fierce predator roamed the Late Cretaceous seas, according to new research.

“There is a lot of potential here to begin to illuminate ancient worlds,” one scientist said.

Release the Kraken! New evidence suggests the existence of a Cretaceous octopus estimated to be up to 19m long! 🐙
This is a pretty concerning graph! Hell's aquarium indeed.

Nanaimoteuthis has been described! The Cretaceous Kraken itself!

Finally, a cephalopod that actually looks like it can brawl with the big cetaceans, modern and extinct, in this case Livyatan!

Lock in nuggets, the Cretaceous kraken just dropped.

Nanaimoteuthis, was a giant octopus from the Late Cretaceous of Canada and Japan.

And it was enormous (possibly).

With the largest of the species possibly reaching up to 18 meters (60 ft) and the smaller estimates at about 7 meters (22ft).
