The Ukrainian Nakba
Russia's Ethnic Cleansing

For the second time. Stalin moved the entire Crimean Tatar Population to russia - many didn't survive
Over 12 years of occupation, Russia has systematically altered Crimea from the inside out, settling an estimated one million Russian citizens on the peninsula while displacing locals.

I love this 1855 image of Fenton's Photographic Van during the Crimean War. The figure is his assistant Marcus Sparling. One of the great pieces of early photography.

Each truck and fuel depot struck along the Crimean route means one fewer load reaching the front. The Hornet crews are doing the slow part of the job: making the peninsula expensive to keep as a rear base, route by route.

Crimea is Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar land, full stop. The settlement figure is the mechanism: deport the Tatars, import a million Russians, then rewrite the census to make it demographics. That is colonial engineering, not organic migration.

Overnight in Kerch, a Russian military unit guarding the Crimean Bridge was attacked. An ammunition depot caught fire after the strike, with secondary explosions continuing into the morning. Flames and thick smoke rose over the site. Traffic across the bridge was completely blocked until 08:50.

Gravely ill Crimean Solidarity political prisoner Tofik Abdulgaziev finally free!
Tofik is now home with his family, and that is truly grounds for rejoicing! It is also grounds for stepping up public pressure to force the release of other dangerously ill political prisoners!

I came across two fantastic names in my village’s records yesterday:
INKERMAN JONES - according to a profile on Ancestry he was named after a Crimean battle that his father fought in.
WEALTHY BUCKLE (née WEALTHY CASE) - it’s ironic that she appeared in lists of poor villagers who received charity.

In short, Ukraine's constitution sees "Ukrainian" as a specified national identity, while also promising equality for other national minorities or indigenous groups (e.g., Russians or Crimean Tatars) that reside in the state. That's an extremely common set up amongst states worldwide.

12.5 years for a donation. A mother of three, Crimean Tatar, charged for sending money to Ukraines army. That number isnt justice, its a colonial message: being Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian is the offense. Political prisoners in Crimea need Western attention, not silence.
