That no one will actually enjoy it. Most of my alpha readers--different from beta readers--are loved ones, none of which have actually sat down to read my first draft.

Every time I leave feedback on a chapter on critiquematch.com I go back and delete between 20 and 50% of my notes because I have a tendency to paint the page absolutely red (or yellow in the case of CM) and I don’t want people to look at my notes and be discouraged. 🫤

The CritiqueMatch website, although sometimes glitchy, has been a great resource for me for connecting with other writers and swapping work, too! Just in case anyone wanted extra recommendations. :)

It's one thing to take your previously free website and make it a paid service, but to then rebrand it as "Freemium" as if that's somehow going to fool the thousands of users who've been with you for YEARS, is beyond insulting.

Managed to get down from 16(!) critique match chapters to 5 tonight. In other news, I got past the big 200,000 word marker! That’s a lot of edits! Maybe not if you’re a pro editor, but if you’re a slow editor like me, that’s a lot for two months, especially on top of my own book~

I discovered beta reading on CritiqueMatch dot com and I swapped beta reading with other noobs. Learned a lot, taught some too, will trade chapters when I get to that point again.
