And, yes, crocodiles, a modern group of animals that didn’t exist in the Mesozoic. I wish that TV people would resist the urge to use living crocodylian species as stand-ins for Mesozoic ones, but good luck with that... 7/8

It's World Crocodile Day and I conveniently just finished my skeletal of Deinosuchus hatcheri, a gigantic crocodylian (or near crocodylian) from Campanian Laramidia. This has been in the works for a long time and it feels good to have it done.

It also showcases several other Wealden (as it was then understood) animals, including a crocodylian, plesiosaur and two turtles in front of Hylaeosaurus. The inclusion of wading birds, meanwhile, reflects misidentified pterosaur bones.

#Paleoart of Stomatosuchus inermis, a large and strange Mesozoic stem-crocodylian. The skulls of these Cretaceous, Egyptian animals were 2 m long but their jaws had tiny teeth, weak muscles, and of fragile construction. Predators of large game, they were not. #paleontology #crocodile #sciart

Tried finding some of the huge amount of CROCODYLIAN (and other crocodyliform) content published at Tet Zoo - essentially none is findable now. Will have to rescue and republish at ver 4. Living crocodiles, also goniopholidids, mekosuchines, thalattosuchians, sebecosuchians...
