Great news on the forthcoming #BritishLibrary extension and continuing refusal to give up on #Crossrail2. Crossrail has done so much good and made so much money (despite cost overruns) that I don't understand why business isn't clamouring to invest.

Driverless operations are no wonder substitute for fly-overs and exclusive tracks.

CrossRail2 wil need some downsizing in Southwest London so as to be workable.

Chessington+ Epsom are probably the most relevant destinations. Potentially with an extension to Guildford.

🙏🙏🙏 Crossrail2 before I'm dead 🙏🙏🙏
Your occasional reminder that, as predicted, no-one now really remembers that Crossrail was massively late and over-budget.

Yes. There is a clear case for borrowing to fund schemes like Bakerloo line extension or even Crossrail2. Many regional schemes too (Leeds trams?). These will reliably pay for themselves and much more in economic gains! Borrowing is a no-brainer.
On top of this one area I will keep pushing on is around looking at alternative ways of financing new transport & infrastructure projects.

We saw with the Elizabeth line how this can work and we must look at how other countries like France manage to finance new infrastructure.

Excellent, Harlow finally filling out its original master plan and expanding to the north of the train station. Great location and connections each way. Growing towards small-city size definitely helps fund/improve the case for getting Crossrail2 back on track - although alternatives might be better

Shared from Alex Davies on X (he’s not on here). This is a history of proposals to bring the tube to #Streatham. Must recently @lambeth Labour councillors voted against campaigning for crossrail2 in 2014. Failed Streatham yet again.

The same area of town that objected to plans for a Crossrail2 station during consultations on route and station location options for that

You might have seen a post about Nimbys in Chelsea objecting to the expansion of *an NHS cancer hospital*. It's even worse than it sounds.

1. It's not a hoax
2. @jonnelledge.bsky.social got in touch with them. I've got their response.
3. I dug out some objections. One of them…well, just read it:

Now if only the Govt would get on and fund Crossrail2 - desperately needed for the SW-NE regional rail/tube relief in London.

The whole article is also a bit of a reminder of things today: when plans were advancing for CrossRail2 Chelsea residents hated the idea of getting a station. Instead they'll get...

HS2 & Crossrail2 Approved.
Don't waste the ink on Scotland or Wales.

As a Londoner, Crossrail2 is sensible. But in a country that cancels most schemes outside the capital, despite London’s importance, we really need to invest in the provinces much more. Not at London’s expense, but at same time. Whitehall must stop interfering, allow regions to invest in transport.
December 18, 2025 at 9:04 AM
The success of the Elizabeth line – 70% paid for by Londoners (30% TfL fares, 40% local businesses) – makes #Crossrail2 a no-brainer. Almost 35% of the network, over 800 stations, would have direct service to a station served by Crossrail 2.

But will @AngelaRayner keep her promise?
