Cancer is generally a huge expanse of never-ending suck, but I got some good news today as I wait for treatment --

My latest ctDNA blood test showed "undetectable levels of cancer DNA". This is, to put it mildly, HUGE.

🧬 Early Lung Cancer Breakthrough

A new tool detects ctDNA in 81% of patients with early lung adenocarcinoma, improving risk prediction and survival outcomes. This could transform cancer care by identifying aggressive cases earlier.

*** PERSONAL NEWS ***

My first post-surgical TEMPUS ctdna blood test came back negative. No detectable levels of cancer DNA in my body.

I was scheduled to have a CT and start another 12-cycle chemo course tomorrow if it were positive.

But it's not. All cancelled. Next test: 3 months.

High ctDNA tumor fraction boosts confidence in driver-negative reports, while low ctDNA suggests need for confirmatory tissue testing.

So long road ahead still, but the news (PET plus earlier negative ctDNA blood test) is excellent.

I'm focusing on the "excellent" part.

Matt Krebs on NHS England ctDNA pilot

To make ctDNA cost effective, tissue NGS testing in some patients needs to be stopped

How do we (safely) do this?

❇️ Actionable Tier 1 mutation present ➡️ no tissue NGS confirmation needed

❇️ Non-informative ctDNA: still need tissue NGS

❗️Guidelines coming ❗️
