I was once interviewed by Calgary radio and they seemed quite surprised to hear that the CTrain is the highest ridership LRT in US/Canada.
We really need to turn the page on stereotyping Alberta's two largest cities as just beacons of sprawl. Edmonton's housing innovation alone has it lapping other cities across the country, and from a broader North American viewpoint its transit ridership is clearly slept on.
We are of course massive CityNerd fans here at Edmonton Transit Riders, so wanted to share a clip in one of his most recent videos ranking North American Cities on per capita transit ridership!

Accurate analysis. I’ve lived in. Calgary for 20 years & take transit to work. What I’ve perceived in terms of threats on the CTrain hasn’t significantly changed over the years, but I have friends who never take the CTrain always tell me how much worse crime on it has gotten.

Having a fare on transit (bus, CTrain, access) isn't permission to behave badly or commit a crime. Transit peace officers can engage with anyone who is offside, regardless of the free fare zone. Closing off the transit system with turnstiles isn't realistic. FFZ was a design feature of the CTrain.

Since both Flames and Stampeders' venues are on the CTrain lines.... and Edwards saved so much money with us buying his arena on that line, maybe they could sponsor it and we could all ride the CTrain for free!
