Goddess of Death Cihuateteo wears some of the elements (necklace made of human hands and abundant death symbolism) usually associated with Coatlicue. Notice, however, the absence of the serpent skirt, a trait exclusive of Coatlicue. Cihuateteo wears a headband made of skulls, and she is shown kneeling on a skull altar, as befits the keeper of the Place of the Dead.
