Powerful Owlet watching for Currawongs. It moved twice in the space of a few minutes due to being bothered by Currawongs. #brisbane #birds #wildoz

R kites, magnificent birds. Heaps of whirling, whistling currawongs outside my window this morning. You know it’s winter in Melbourne when the currawongs are gathering in large flocks. #Firstbirdofmyday #Whatsyours

Australia is home to many species of incredible birds who fill the country with colour, song and character! Some of our most common native birds include rainbow lorikeets, cockatoos, magpies, kookaburras and currawongs!

Australian Fact: Currawongs are more orderly than magpies.

I do love just how silently the Pied Currawongs (Strepera graculina) can sit in the foliage.

CURRAWONGS IMPLICATED??
August 3, 2026 at 1:06 AM
This morning’s visitors at my door:

8 Australian magpies
14 pied currawongs
2 grey butcherbirds
12 crimson rosellas
3 rainbow lorikeets (unusual, but there were 6 yesterday)
and, for some reason, 1 very healthy rat.

Despite all the kerfuffle with the Currawongs, the Powerful Owlet did manage to get some sleep.

More #birds. Currawongs (Strepera graculina) feeding on cotoneaster berries. Also disagreeing with magpies and cockatoos. Quite bold and curious - also nest-robbers
