A multivariate statistical framework for mixed storm types in compound flood analysis
Abstract. In coastal regions, compound flooding can arise from a combination of different drivers, such as storm surges, high tides, excess river discharge, and rainfall. Compound flood potential is o...

Predicting Characteristic Length Scales of Barrier Island Segmentation in Microtidal Environments
We assess the vulnerability of micro-tidal barriers to segmentation by comparing the timescales of island rollover and alongshore diffusion The comparison defines a critical length scale over whi...

We normally design infrastructure for a relatively constant, or now, evolving climate. But what happens when you have a nuclear waste site and you need to consider 10k yr of landscape evolution and the migration of valleys and rivers? #DailyPaper

Amplification of downstream flood stage due to damming of fine-grained rivers - Nature Communications
Dams constructed on fine-grained rivers cause an increase in flow resistance downstream, thereby amplifying, rather than reducing, flood stage.

Today's #dailypaper - Stalin had some pretty strong ideas on how to manipulate the environment to power the USSR. Including windbreaks along farms and rivers with trees planted in "revolutionary" (Lamarckian) planting patterns.
#dailypaper on historic interaction between energy production, transportation, and industrial development. Wonder what we can learn for climate transition going forward.
The early Industrial Revolution was driven mainly by water (water mills and canals) rather than coal and steam.

This fascinating paper shows most places had plenty of water power. But in South Lancashire the mills hit the limits of water power - so switched to coal.
