had to wait til 8 December, Cornwall Coliseum in St.Austell. Sound Affects was out by then. I had chicken pox before the gig and listened to it non stop in bed on my Mum’s Dansette major, arm lifted to repeat, side one for hours then got up and did the same with side two and repeated for days🤣

Owned Boxed roughly the same age as yourself. Experiencing all of it's Quad Might, on a similarly ancient Mono Dansette thing. Still one of my favourite collections of music. As important to me as The Beatles Red & Blue albums.

Wore out my copy playing it over and over on an old dansette with a knackered stylus.
How was the 7" mix different? Which parts had the string synth?

What a great article. My first single, bought age 7 from the Pickerings music shop in Atherstone, was On White Horses by Jacky - Jackie Lee - theme song to The Yugoslavian The White Horses. I played it twice on the family Dansette then slept with it under my pillow, warping it into unplayability.

My brother and I clubbed together for 'Flash' by Queen, and I think my first was Paul McCartney 'Pipes of Peace'. We had a very old dansette record player in the house and used to play our singles on 78. I don't think we ever played Flash at its normal speed, it sounds too slow when I hear it now.
First single you bought with your own money. No lying!
Mine: "Red Box - Lean on Me (Ah-Li-Ayo)", 1985. Still know every word.

Think I was about 11, and then my sister went to live in that London and left me her dansette and 4 LPs, properly caught the bug then.
Yes, youth club next, and later getting snuck into older brothers engineering firm’s sports and social club discos.
So much great music.

I restored a beautiful Dansette Monarch once for a young girl who'd inherited it from her grandmother. Made someone very happy that day.

There was a Dansette in one of my places at work, cracking sound, used the radio though the record player still worked I think. It was hooked up to the tannoy for the floor. Radio 1. Big sign "Do not return!".

As a 15 year old kid in 1983 I bought the Teledisc album 'The Shadows Silver Album' - and thought this sounds different to the Shadows I'd discovered in a bag of old 7"s I was gifted in the 1970s - along with a handed down Dansette to play them on - this book will take me right back to then.
