The Cobra Lily (Darlingtonia californica) has to be one the coolest plants. Not only does it look like a snake (complete with forked tongue) but it is carnivorous.

On my way to the redwoods, I finally stopped by Darlingtonia State Park, home to the cobra lily carnivorous plant.
A big sign explaining the Darlingtonia carnivorous plant and how it lures insects in under its hood for digestion, flowers in May or June, and only grows in southern Oregon and Northern California. there is also a painted diagram of the plant, showing its bulbus head and dual leaf protrusions that resemble either a forked snake tongue, or long fangs, depending on how you look at it. These are also called cobra lilies. A wide patch of Darlingtonia that fills the screen. They have green stalks with green bulbous heads, speckled with red. Florence ALSO has sand dunes as well as the only Oregon state park dedicated to the preservation of a single specific species: Our only native pitcher plant, Darlingtonia californica aka the cobra lily. It goes extremely hard and that's why I have one tattooed on me. 10/10 Oregon coast stuff

I also banged out a large bowl to bisque for my partner’s darlingtonia.
Darlingtonia are finicky, and want their roots a bit cooler than Seattle summers have been.
The plan is to create a natural cooling system where the darlingtonia sit in a pot in damp sand in a terra cotta/ bisqued clay bowl
