A huge backlash against data centers as well as Republicans. There were 41 ballot measures in 10 states to restrict the construction of data centers and voters sided against data centers everywhere except Harwood, North Dakota. www.cnbc.com/2026/11/04/d...

We will never know exactly how much Ukraine demolishing Russian troll data centers affected the Republicans' underperformance in the midterms, but I thank them nonetheless.

As part of last night’s shocking blue tsunami, voters selected candidates with tough policies on data centers at all levels of government, in a clear rebuke to the industry’s buildout in states across the country.
The Results Are In: Voters Hate Data Centers
From high-profile Senate races to local rezoning initiatives, data centers and their supporters did miserably on the ballot in the 2026 midterms.

The amusing thing about Musk saying Blue Texas will
motivate him to build data centers in space is that “data centers in space” is a
magnificent bit of
bullshit, so he’s either desperately bluffing or has reached critical mass in buying his own bullshit.

yeah, I think this is a core reason why people hate data centers so much: it’s not just about the data centers.
The American people really, really, really hate corporate CEO's celebrating how many people they laid off during quarterly reports. Data centers are the closest thing they have to a vulnerable target.

Wow! “10 States With Data Centers on the Ballot All Voted to Ban Them *** Out of 41 ballot initiatives, just one very local measure in support of data centers passed.” 11/4/26

Someone should immediately resource Justin Pearson to go around the country talking about data centers and connecting with local anti-data center organizers.

41 ballot initiatives pausing or banning data centers at the local level passed out of 41. Being anti data center is a bipartisan winning issue.

Very much worth noting that among the biggest losers in this landslide so far: data centers, AI industry PAC recipients, and Elon Musk.

AI companies will need to grapple with the fact that the American people really, really, really hate data centers.
