Committee considers bill to require agencies to disaggregate demographic data
Senate Bill 5784 would require state agencies to collect voluntary self-identification demographic data consistent with OMB Statistical Policy Directive No. 15, including MENA as a minimum category and additional disaggregation where appropriate; the Office of Equity supported the policy but noted fiscal and privacy considerations.

It is offensive and unacceptable that opponents of #datadisaggregation — including some conservative Asian Americans — are adopting scare mongering tactics paralleling efforts that would bring resources to help AsAms to JA incarceration and Nazi Germany. We can do better.

This is why so many Asian American activists work so tirelessly on the #datadisaggregation issue. We can be united as Asian Americans while we demand that state and federal agencies do their part to make sure data collected about our communities are representative and granular.

Some in our community push back against data disaggregation because they see it as divisive. I see no reason why better data to help us understand who we are in community with should be viewed as a threat.
