Dataism turning into yet another shitty -ism.

this intersects weel with what i've been reading in Byung-Chul Han's writings about dataism and non-things and information sort of taking the place of action and experience

HUGE NEWS: Chris Morris spotted filming in London this week! Assuming this is related to his "snake oil of dataism and AI" project, given he recently appeared with Cory Doctorow.

A decade ago dataism emerged as a new ideology. It remains so but has merged with AI entrusting data to algorithms surpassing collective human intelligence. Soon non-conscious intelligent algorithms will know us better... What's more important intelligence or consciousness?

Understand the displacement of human processing and the algorithms of violence and gain essential insights into dataism, the data-based self, and why machines can't replace our moral judgment.

Don't just use algorithms—understand them.

The growing obsession with polls is yet another example of the damage that dataism (the new religion) and the datafication of everything are doing.

Purely-chosen measures and metrics are made of perverse incentives.

“Dataism is nihilism. It gives up on any and all meaning. Data and numbers are not narrative; they are additive. Meaning, on the other hand, is based on narration.”

Between teaching The Circle and the endless AI discourse on my timeline, I think about Byung-Chul Han’s Psychopolitics daily.

When political authority ceases to serve citizens and instead aligns itself with corporate interests, policymaking becomes an extension of market logic.

Our fundamental argument in The New Knowledge was that the notion that data and AI are unbiased and can predict the future is basically a belief system (dataism) at this point, impervious to rational argument. This would seem to be yet another example of the new knowledge in action.

As economics has increasingly become an empirical technocracy, it risks losing sight of what makes social inquiry meaningful: context, purpose, and human consequence.
