A second-hand ticket reseller based in Melbourne, Tixel, has confirmed a data breach where customer email addresses and mobile numbers were accessed. The incident involved unauthorized access to Metabase, a third-party analytics provider, through a zero-day vulnerability in cloud services. Hackers are believed to have used AI-powered Large Language Models (LLMs) to exploit the system, with Metabase confirming the breach occurred weeks prior on August 3. While passwords, credit card details, and purchase history were not compromised, customers are urged to watch for phishing attempts mimicking Tixel communications. The company has launched security updates and stated that just under three per cent of its users were affected. This incident highlights growing risks associated with AI-driven cyberattacks and underscores the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures in cloud-based systems.
