curated datasets are their own reward really

(Among other things, the total # of votes here is less than *10%* of the average total number of votes we expect in the 435 voting House districts, so beware of "small" datasets in non-representative populations.)

Do you know how many free books there are on the Internet? How many encyclopedia entries? How many datasets?

I see this sentiment a lot, but local models don't solve the training problem at all. In most cases, local models are either getting their weights from these same companies that you hate, or from rogue distillation of their models. And the datasets are still the same unethical datasets as before.

the amount of people truly using LLMs as a tool (local and/or specialized low impact models, limited datasets, etc) is significantly smaller than the people vibe coding start-to-finish but I don't trust you guys to not destroy someone in the former camp over something that was actually no big deal

Use data poisoning, here's links to Glaze and Nightshade: glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/what-is-glaz... This is software engineered specifically to poison AI training datasets, and it does work, don't let anyone tell you differently.

In IPCC land, 1.3°C sounds right.
Multiple datasets, delayed 10 year running average, and then lowballed, for good measure.
Will IPCC AR7 show global warming below 1.5°C?

My attempt to predict this, based on past AR reports, data, and a projected warm end to 2026 and even warmer 2027.

A semi-subjective concept graphic suggesting the IPCC will continue to report 5+ years behind what the world is experiencing.

It is day 2 of #IAUS409. We're starting with a keynote by Lucia Marchetti on "Exploration of astronomical (and multidisciplinary) datasets and simulations using immersive technologies: lessons learnt."

ZZZ: Cissia Plus+!

I know her tail is mechanical but if it was a real tail would she be a woman with a snake tail, or a snake with a woman for a head?

Two versions for reasons I don't have room to explain!

You’re telling me a dataset gathered in a very different way from the vast majority of datasets got a different result?

Distributed Denial of Secrets, the nonprofit that archives leaked datasets, published the lot. Names. Offices. Contact details. Job assignments. And 55,603 internal groups.

Customs and Border Protection took the biggest hit: 21,329 entries. ICE: 6,598. Homeland Security

Happy to announce a major update of @netzschleuder.skewed.de, a network catalog and repository.

networks.skewed.de

The catalog size has more than *tripled*: Now it covers over 260K networks, from 882 datasets covering all areas.

It is now possibly the single largest repository of its kind! 1/4

NZ genealogy research aggregator created by Ash Howison. Very useful for searching for ancestors across large datasets.

Open ASR with speaker labels is now fast and cheap. NVIDIA's Nemotron 3.5 Transcribe did 4.9 hours of 1940s radio drama, with who-said-what and word timestamps, in one Hugging Face Job for $0.48. Useful for oral histories and radio archives.

if you are a newsroom (of any size) and you appreciate the icepick search tool and you have been struggling with analyzing big datasets (be they leaks or other data), i can be commissioned/contracted as a freelancer to help with that!

Oh, look, basically the same rationale we've gotten from EarthScope for why we've let our seismic datasets get captured by AWS.

It's also not ideal that this is all looking at administrative data. That is, routinely collected insurance claims that do not reflect the totality of patient experience.

That being said, most of the other studies looked at very similar datasets, so it's not the strongest critique imo.
