Although I’m cross about No Time to Die, there are some lovely touches for fans.
The DBS. The lines from previous films. The DB5. The poison garden from the original Dr No novel, the way the film ends with Madeline driving through a tunnel that forms the bond sight…
A real curate’s egg of a film.

I feel like the key thing with sqlite for bsky was "we'll run out of sockets long before we run out of DBs" given that in practice a PDS is closer to a SOCKS proxy with a little DB and oauth provider attached.

does anyone itt have good use cases for mongo/dynamo-alike leaderless replicated dbs? I feel like every prod workload I've designed for has been a Just Use Postgres, Dumbass problem so I'm probably missing some applications even after reading the appropriate bits of DDIA

Very interesting. I've experimented with LSPs and vector dbs to try and achieve similar, but how is this embedded into the language? Or is it an additional tool that can traverse the graph?

What is already super nice is this stores to disk. Too many NoSQL DBs are purely in-memory, and after the memory load I had from Obsidian, I want to sidestep that very much.

4/6 Previously, it was thought that recovering this histogram information required a very strong adversary that persistently compromises the server or break the TEE itself using side channels. I show, in fact, many real implementations of these DBs leak this frequency information—in one snapshot.

3/6 TEE-based encrypted DBs like Microsoft SQL Server's Always Encrypted—built on Intel SGX—are widely considered resistant to certain inference attacks, as they don't reveal the frequency, or histogram, of the underlying plaintext values to an adversary that just sees static snapshots of the DB.

Using Arborism to Break the Confidentiality of Microsoft SQL Server’s Always Encrypted (and Other TEE-Based Encrypted DBs)
A single snapshot of TEE-based encrypted database indexes can reveal plaintext histograms and enable strong plaintext recovery without breaking the TEE.

Also, it still baffles me that of the top 100 at db-engines.com/en/ranking MySQL is one of only 2 DBs named after a real person the author knew (his daughter), and the other - MariaDB - is named after his second daughter.
And there are other candidates! Like Cassandra! But no, these are mythical.

In the United Kingdom, there is a DBS check which checks your entire background from birth to see whether you have committed any severe crimes or committed sexual assault or caused problems for children. If any of them come to like, you are not employed.

Trying to do a DBS renewal and since all my service accounts are electronic-only, it’s not clear that I can produce enough physical documents. Self-printed paperwork not acceptable.
Not that the government are trying to steer us towards national ID cards. Ahem.
