..and yet.

It's a good thing UK is erring on the side of trying to be more credible on debt management, given the size of the existing debt & the (dire) growth forecasts.

It works if you don’t mind accruing a ton of technical debt, having more bugs in the software, having no one who actually understands any of the code base, and atrophying your ability to problem solve on your own. It’s already backfiring, but more code is being pushed so management doesn’t care.
I think it’s important for anyone who (completely understandably) checked out on AI the second the crypto/nft/metaverse/snake oil chuds started pushing it to realize that, in at least the domain of software development, we are very much living in a scenario where the snake oil actually works
personally think if the line is going to be “no gen ai in anything” then the you might have to consider divesting from AAA games entirely because this is just what the industry is now, whether they admit it so publicly or not

They kind of smell of "shiny but substanceless tech demo that is catnip for upper management, and results in your team being made responsible for the worst heap of single programmer tech-debt you've ever seen". But I haven't really looked closely, maaaaaybe I'm too skeptical...

In recent years, WB has been beleaguered by a series of management teams who thought they were the smartest guys in the room and would run the franchise like a business by cutting waste, trimming fat, blah blah blah, each time loading up the acquisition target with crushing debt. Good luck, people.

As someone whose management still supports me not using LLMs to write code (because I'm good and fast enough without), I always love threads like this.

They assume we don't get bitten by a) tech debt and disengaged developers and b) the end of LLM subsidising and cheap token prices!
"I will not touch anything with ai-generated code" is going to mean, in pretty short order, "I will not touch software"

this is just functionally what software development is now and it's only going to accelerate from here

Oversight without integration is just management debt. In systems design, if you aren't part of the feedback loop, you aren't in control. Quality can't be "monitored" into existence.
