Yoooo it's decapod #Crustmas
I have no idea where this year went but it's December 1st again, so here we go

Day 1 of my 2025 Favorites: I tried my hand at tide-pooling shenanigans, and found PISTOL SHRAMPS 😍
They use that giant claw to kill things with a shock wave, and that's just fun.

SHRIMPtember concludes a Devonian decapod whose descendants become shrimp 🦐, lobsters 🦞, and crabs 🦀 (but not Dendrobranchiata -- prawns 🍤).

You can't expect a demigod to beat a decapod, but a demon on the other hand...

The 12yo has declared Porcelain Crab Awareness Day!

I’m especially fond of the red and white polka dotted ones. Are they crabs if they have crab in their name? Nope. These are decapod crustaceans evolving ever crab-wards!

2) Tha $lick Decapod

AKA the "Grim Don of the Shallows." Tha $lick Decapod has taken the underground rap world by storm. His single "I, A Shrimp, Had Sex With Both Of Your Human Parents" went #1, and won four Grammys and a condemnation from the U.N. Can he manage to snag his first The Radley Award?

Seafloor snacking at its spiniest 🦀

This decadent decapod, Paralithodes sp., is also known as a king crab. Spiny king crabs crawl across the seafloor in search of their next meal, which could be other crabs, sea stars, dead animals, or organic material that sank from the surface waters above.

Interestingly, another pterosaur was discovered much earlier (the "Pester Exemplar" in 1757)(also from Bavarian limestone and also a Pterodactylus) described by another Enlightment thinker, Ignaz von Born, who determined the specimen incorrectly as a decapod crustacean.
