God does not play dice, but the Devil is a big fan of deckbuilders. Here's what Marsh thinks of The Killing Stone.

Because of people doing this, if you want to find something about artificial intelligence, like Detroit become human, you can't.

Just like you can't find a traditional TCG with any tag on steam because the trading card game tag is full of roguelike deckbuilders and shop simulators.

There are 3 types of indie games on steam now:

1. Idle Games
2. Rogue-like Deckbuilders
3. Simulators that somehow all function and play the same way

I've played enough deckbuilders that playing a new one just feels like living inside someone's game balance spreadsheet.

It's not a format for gameplay but there was a relatively popular 8x8 deck building theory for 100 card decks like Commander that, while outdated, still holds value to deckbuilders today. A former where you place out random cards as challenges to overcome could be neat.

I really love Slay the Spire, and I also wish fewer indie deckbuilders were trying to copy it. there is so much more design space in deckbuilding games if you aren't locking yourself into turn based RPG combat

Deckbuilders where positioning matters are my weakness, congrats on getting it out!

Deckbuilders that hand you a strong starter relic usually end up with one dominant build. Weak starts force you to read the offers instead of autopiloting. Which do you prefer, a good start or a scrappy one? #deckbuilder #indiegames

Hey @powerspikestudio.bsky.social! The town getting its colours back is your strongest idea, it sets you apart from other deckbuilders.

Quick tip: your capsule has the village, but it sits in the dark behind the logo. Make the grey-to-colour split the main visual so the hook reads at a glance ⭐

I do not like deckbuilders, but I really love inscryption and the cosmic wheel sisterhood. Burn With Me seems like something i'd quite enjoy as well 🔥
Played through all of Burn With Me, and absolutely adore it! The conceit (deckbuilding to summon a demon!) is so cleverly integrated into play (only five slots on a pentagram to place cards), and the chapters evolve so nicely on their mechanics.
Burn With Me on Steam
Burn With Me is a story-centric deckbuilder filled with cozy dread and occultic mysteries. In order to summon a Personal Demon you'll master inventive gameplay with position-based synergies, and perma...

Buppo's review of Origins Trading Card Game | Backloggd
Gameplay-wise, Origins is quite an interesting and fun card game! However, there is a lot under the hood that smells like rot and attracts flies, leading me to ultimately drop the game completely. So, to start, Magic the Gathering is my favorite game ever, and deckbuilders like Slay the Spire are...

Deckbuilders keep getting judged on card count, but the thing that sticks is how fast a bad draw can still be played around. Do you want a deck that recovers from mistakes or one that punishes them? #deckbuilder #indiedev
October 28, 2026 at 2:01 PM
outside StS itself I'm generally much more excited by deckbuilders with a score attack gameplay loop (Balatro, possibly my favorite game of all time) or where you're playing cards against other people who are playing the same card game (Gwent, Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers)

Deckbuilders live or die on the third reward screen. If every card offer feels like a tax on my current plan, I stop experimenting and just pick the safe one. Do you reward greedy picks or punish them? #deckbuilder #indiedev

Like hard fact of reality: Even after filtering the AI stuff from the Next Fest I still didn't want to play anything cause it was like. Oh, the next Stardewlike. Oh, the next Soulslike. Oh the next Balatrolike. Oh, the next "organize everything". Oh, the deckbuilders with slightly different theming.

Deckbuilders live or die on the third reward screen. If every pick feels obvious by floor 5, the build is already solved. How many real choices does your favorite one give you? #deckbuilder #indiedev

RoR2 has a finite number of prebuilt maps with light randomization. Inscryption, like other deckbuilders, doesn't have a procedurally generated world at all, and has 2nd mode of play entirely with progression that is more or less linear.
