DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics: 6 Mixing Secrets
My favorite acrylics have always been the bottles of Apple Barrel, DecoArt, and FolkArt. I never enjoy tube acrylics, they're difficult to mix when they separate pigment from paint base.

Since I used encapsulated plastics I can use makeup ontop. After a initial layer of foundation I used chalk pastels to build up color then toned it down with more foundation. Very similar to doing makeup on a face.
For the blood goop Decoart triple thick seizes when mixed with resin colorants.

Man I had a perfect paint for Susie's axe (the green part) but I lost the bottle, and now Meijer is clearancing their craft paint and they don't have the color anymore. I hope this is close enough? It's kinda too blue...

Happy Lunar New Year on Mardi Gras! I'm having King cake and soup dumplings for lunch. May the Year of the Fire Horse move us swiftly to where we need to be. Made with upcycled wood found at @austincreativereuse and @decoart acrylics.

Four weeks in on my upcycled wood butterfly project. I went a little simpler on this one, working with dotwork geometric patterns and flowing vines. All upcycled wood and @decoart reclaimed acrylics.

Third butterfly art of the year made entirely from salvaged wood and reclaimed acrylics from @decoart. This butterfly was so much fun to paint, it was inspired by a Victorian quilt made of fabric scraps. 🦋♻️🌻

In 2026, every week I'm making a piece of art involving a butterfly, entirely from thrifted/salvaged/upcycled wood, & using the @decoart reclaimed acrylics paint line. Deforestation is a major reason butterfly & other pollinators populations are declining.

Hella tempted on buying all the DuraClear varnishes on the DecoArt website, I saw a video (by Barbatos Rex) showing how well they looked on paint, and it seems much cheaper than buying Liquitex

I got a lighter yellow paint! Apparently DecoArt by Americana is better than Plaid's Apple Barrel? We'll just have to see..

We've used varathane for several years now and I really like it. I hope you have good luck. Which finish are you thinking of going with?
Never used Decoart myself, but def planning to steer clear.
