Decriminalization of white collar crime, and crime reduction, are not the same thing.

Prison abolitionists can feel free to call me names, but this has been very satisfying day, despite me being drug decriminalization supporter (well, peddling drugs for the mob is bad and decriminalization would throw wrench into that).
October 28, 2026 at 9:26 PM
Also total decriminalization with safe legal supply is the only way we should be dealing with drugs btw just cause now I'm mad thinking about anyone getting arrested for fucking pot

"The decriminalization of street vending across California with passage of Senate Bill 946 in 2018 was supposed to result in local law enforcement not citing street vendors."

"[T]he police are still making them pack up."

California decriminalized street vending. LAPD is still citing vendors in MacArthur Park
Vendors say LAPD is using 41.18 to harass them. Now they're part of a fight to repeal the anti-camping law entirely.

Recent Police release on prostitution arrests cause me to want to restate: Sex work is a valid form of work. We should support sex workers in being safe and listen to what they want and need in regards to their health and safety.

This is typically: decriminalization.
October 29, 2026 at 5:15 PM
That was decriminalization, not only that but without the proper infrastructure in place to do the best possible version of that. I’m talking about legalized regulated drug supply

"The decriminalization of street vending across California with passage of Senate Bill 946..." — who gets displaced?
November 3, 2026 at 12:49 AM
Same. Oregon did this by repealing decriminalization of drugs because people didn't see an immediate huge drop in drug use, overdoses, etc.

They gave it two years. Not even a full congressional cycle. They debated the bill for longer than that.
The thing I'm most worried about right now is that we'll go into 2027 with wildly unrealistic expectations about what Congress can do and then in 2028 it will be back to "Fuck the Dems they're useless".

Lying about a position will get nowhere. Especially when you're willing to say decriminalization = anti-pot. LMFAO

How #BCNDP health minister Adrian Dix, AG David Eby, & John Hogan set up “decriminalization” to fail by never doing actual decriminalization, but a policy pilot that:

Prioritized police

Ignored experts

Setup to fail people with SUD & public

Mission accomplished

From that point on, I think he had trouble trusting his instincts and pushing things through. The contrast between his time as AG, pushing through difficult reforms on files like ICBC and his timid, indecisive approach as premier to everything from DRIPA to decriminalization was remarkable.

Effective decriminalization policy must be determined by people who use drugs—anything else will result in incremental, expensive policy changes that only demand more police presence and intervention and result in further harm.

Decriminalization and expanding access to primary care are key steps toward reproductive justice. Indonesia’s 2023 law broadened medical/rape exemptions, but critics note legal hurdles and strict facility requirements still prevent timely care, driving women to unsafe alternatives.
