(Un)Cooperative Robots: From Compliance AI to Principled Uncooperative AI
Stuart Russell's human-compatible AI framework proposes that machines should maximize the realization of human preferences—in practice, designing AI systems to defer unconditionally to human operators...

I am big believer in Auguste Gusteau’s philosophy adopted for legislation: anyone (ie non-lawyers) can read a statue. Too often people defer to gatekeepers to read bills or text for them to the detriment of democratic debate.

The Yes side tested my limits, however.

Remember, Trump signed an executive order saying that the entire executive branch — and presumably the military — should defer to his personal interpretation of the law.

Who are the courts to stand against that? Surely they can’t interfere in the operation of a co-equal branch?! /s

Developers stuck in Gate 2 queue rerun could defer connection dates before April 2027 liability step

Developers with Gate 2 offers gain deferred liability and capital-contribution exposure, and under WACM1/WACM3 they also gain later milestones.

Developers stuck in Gate 2 queue rerun could defer connection dates before April 2027 liability step
CMP471 would let transmission-connected projects receiving Gate 2 offers under the queue rerun (CMP435) ask NESO, once, to push back their contracted connection date, with NESO and the Transmission Ow

Good morning, Gunny

I refer to Pete as an asshole, but I’ll defer to you

Sure I’m (obviously) not a lawyer so I defer to anyone who is, about this. I was more struck by the story as highlighting (again) the depths of cynicism their ownership / directors have gone to.

Unfortunately I don't know US tax law so defer to others to refute or confirm.

The EU might I think defer the issue of Schengen to Ireland on the basis that it would be most affected. But Ireland would be daft to sabotage UK rejoin over Schengen, surely?

And I don’t believe the EU would want the UK inside the Euro, sadly it would be massively destabilising for both sides.

I'd probably defer it to 25, tbh, but I think that's broadly right.

Busy is not the same as productive.

One of my sessions for anyone buried under unfinished work and unread emails. It gathers the clutter into one pile and runs each item through a simple choice: do it, delegate it, defer it or ditch it.

So best practices of German academic history in English?
Huh. Yeah, that's a challenge.
I'd again defer to the aforementioned experts regarding official rules, but, well, considering how annoying it seems to write out, dies das language is a living thing, why not go with what you like?

As a non-native-English speaker I’m happy to defer to whatever the majority of you decide on.

Very funny that Bob Dylan insists he's not happy/finished with Blind Willie McTell. On the one hand it's clearly a masterpiece. On the other hand who are any of us to tell Bob Dylan to defer to our judgment on songwriting?

A properly structured 1031 DST may allow eligible investors to:

- Invest in institutional-quality real estate
- Potentially defer capital gains taxes through a qualifying 1031 Exchange
- Receive potential passive income
- Transition away from day-to-day property management

The real blackpill moment for me was when during Covid, uni exec put to staff the question: defer pay rise for a year or accept double digit job losses. NTEU recommended the latter because they all knew it would be professional staff taking the hit. Guess how staff voted

One mark of truly intelligent people is that they don't try to convince you they're intelligent, or say outright they're intelligent.

They speak intelligently about what they know, and defer to those who have knowledge or lived experience when they don't.

He's also leaning hard into conservatives' psychological reactance ("how dare you try to control me!") & distrust of medical & public health systems, saying AI care can "free us from medical tyranny," & that "public officials who tell Americans to defer to experts will 'never ever again' be able to

It doesn’t have to be perfect the first time, and if something is going to take considerable time and effort to do now but isn’t needed until later, then defer it. But we already know we need this now.

It’s more expensive to do later.
Or it just doesn’t get done and you live with half-baked.

We need an impartial body of experts that will always defer to public safety and trust over the financial interests of AI companies setting the standards and conducting third party oversight of AI. The consequences of irresponsible AI development are too dire to leave to self-regulation.
Musk, Zuckerberg, Pichai, Amodei, Brockman and Huang signed Trump’s "AI accord" requiring outside oversight. Three helped write the "self-regulation" rules and are building the body that would set standards for and certify the auditors policing them.
The Real AI Threat Isn’t the Machines. It’s Money, Power and Impunity.
Six tech oligarchs signed Trump’s voluntary AI safety accord. Their companies hold billions in federal contracts. The conflict of interest is explicit: three helped design the rules meant to police th...
