somehow, DeGaulle returned

"No country without an atom bomb could properly consider itself independent." - Charles deGaulle, 1965

absolutely completely vindicated, no notes

to riff on DeGaulle:

“America is a big country, inhabited by many consumers."
It is much harder to crash the US economy than I expected.

to paraphrase DeGaulle, india is a big country inhabited by many indians
tbh i've shown photos of north-east indians to my Canadian friends and they find it hard to understand more East Asian features on Indians

Mark Carney of all people sounds like DeGaulle on steroids
Merz was as pro-American as you can get and he is now sounding like Macron. I think that horse is already out of the barn.

Obama could be the Dems’ DeGaulle figure if he wanted it, which for whatever explanation he clearly doesn’t

bsky.app/profile/saba...
If he wanted it could be Obama, as he’s still the most widely admired figure in the party and he’s a naturally gifted leader, but he’s missing right now

Next person up is AOC who wants a to fight, but lacks broad support. This week might cement her bona fides with angry rank-and-file Democrats

You mean "placate that fucking annoying DeGaulle"

Eisenhower didn't give a shit about some reds in the French Resistance. He had to keep DeGaulle on board
June 6, 2026 at 5:00 PM
The Provisional Government of the French Republic was a national unity government that included the Communists. The concern was there but tertiary at best.

DeGaulle was primarily concerned about:
- Paris uprising being crushed like Warsaw
- military occupation by UK/USA
- his own influence

🇫🇷 / 🇺🇸… encore une fois le grand Charles, par sa vision, avait plusieurs longueurs, et même plusieurs décennies, d’avance !

Extremely funny that the American Lenin/DeGaulle is almost assuredly a neocon

I wonder if this is going to build as hard as it did under degaulle

"Canada is a big country inhabited by many Canadians" - DeGaulle, if he was around today

An entire culture of men who think Charles DeGaulle is a sex symbol.

The horrifying 'lesson' is not 'you know, actually DeGaulle and Bevin were right to want to be able to resist decolonisation by having their own nukes', it is 'if you got nukes, keep 'em, retain optionality'.
