Nice community meeting last week!
@danielanemetschek.bsky.social gave us a sneak peak into the metadatabase (we cover >14.000 dendrometers already!), while @daniellecreek.bsky.social led the discussion on ongoing activities and priorities.
Happy to see the community getting involved.

Water Limits Radial Tree Growth More Than Light in an Everwet Subtropical Forest
We deployed automated point dendrometers on 35 trees representing three life history strategies in an everwet subtropical forest with 3500 mm rain annually and no pronounced dry season. Contrary to t...

Hydrology Paper of the Day @christina-hn.bsky.social on the need for a global network of instruments to measure tree stem radius: more dendrometers should be deployed across multiple biomes; quantifying growth, stress, and hydrological processes; and standardizing measurements at all network sites.
Yay! Our new commentary is now out in Tree Physiology:
What are dendrometers and why do we need a global dendrometer network?
💥Our first GDN paper is out!
We document how it all started with a meeting in Norway, and outline some of the great potential that lies in creating a global community.

📢Over 80% of Czech forest 🌲ecosystems are experiencing #drought stress, as shown by tree water deficit measured via dendrometers. Not the best start to the growing season. Stay tuned with our real-time #biomonitoring system — #DendroNetwork - dendronet.cz

Au-Wom Wombat Forest #eddycovariance tower spring clean and check ups. No water ingress in this anemometer 😃 And no damage from the storm on Wednesday, only one tree down in the plot. The DIY Lora #dendrometers survived winter too - mostly.

Trees in Switzerland are intensively drought-stressed - the hot and dry period we are still in has led to very high tree water deficits (determined with point dendrometers) in forest stands across the whole country treenet.info. @wslresearch.bsky.social

Forests under climate stress – Why trees are growing less despite an early start
Climate change is causing trees to sprout earlier in spring. Nevertheless, some tree species are growing less. A study by the Swiss Federal Research Institute WS...

🌳 Want to watch trees grow? Our DL-ZN1 dendrometers reveal: trees shrink by day, expand at night, and only grow on surprisingly few days per year. A @wslresearch.bsky.social study shows spruce, fir, and beech are growing less despite warmer springs. Less growth = less carbon stored.

Decentlab DL-ZN1 dendrometers record stem radius every ten minutes, revealing real-time insights into growth, water balance, and drought stress.
Sound artist Marcus Maeder transforms these signals into sound — making climate change not just visible, but audible.

1st post! Great to highlight my PD project:
LUQTEE, the Luquillo Throughfall Exclusion Experiment!

We study how trees cope under drought, with 3 experimental 20x20m drought plots in Puerto Rico. Point dendrometers, sapflow sensors, water potentials. And more! Pics from last week helping building.

In subproject 1, Christian Ammer & Christina Hackmann (U Göttingen) will study how beech forests with different structures respond to climatic extremes like droughts. They focus on tree growth and water balance, using in situ measurements (sap flow sensors, dendrometers) and retrospective 13C data.

My first PhD paper got published recently 🌱
We explored how local neighborhood impacted tree water status, using high-resolution dendrometers. Turns out, it does! - under drought. Species identity matters a lot, too: check the paper to see who profited, it's 🔓
